Tutorial: Sewing Cloth Diapers (One Size Pocket Diapers)

Sewing cloth diapers is something that I never thought I would do in my life. Where I come from I've never met someone who uses them. But now that I use them, they are the best decision we have made. And I want to share with you how I make my cloth diapers.

I love making them. Yes the big brands are really cute and awesome but I have had no problem with the ones I have sewn myself and I can do any print I want or design. So why pay $30 to $35 dollars per diaper when I can make them for less than $10 dollars.
I also have this tutorial in Spanish.
Tambien tengo este tutorial en Español.

And the measurements are

I hope you found this tutorial helpful and that you start making your cloth diapers real soon. Check out some of the designs I made.

Check out my Etsy shop, you can find some of the designs that I showed you.

  1. Cute diapers. I use cloth diapers as well but haven't ventured to making any on my own yet. What do you use for inserts? My pocket diapers have inserts that are wearing. I want to make new ones but I'm not sure on the materials.

  4. Hi, I found your tutorial on YouTube and followed the link for the diaper pattern to here. I'm not sure if I just can't locate it, but all I see pertaining to the pattern is the picture you have posted here. Do you have a download ready version, like a pdf? Or if it's not your own pattern, where did you get it? Your tutorial was well done and easy to understand, I'm anxious to get started and love the look of your diapers. Thanks!

  10. Hola Johana! Te escribo desde argentina. Te cuento q tengo un bebé de cuatro meses y estoy con muchas ganas de empezar a usar pañales de tela. He visto toooooddoooooos tus vídeos sobre pañales. Te ruego me respondas. Muchas gracias. Saludos

  13. Hello Johanna. Thank you so much for your instructions and videos on how to make these cloth diapers. I am from the US, where we use inches, but I got out my cm measuring tape to make this easier for me! However, I notice there are a couple measurements that do not line up, I think I can wing it a bit, but for the snaps, it says the large part should be a total of 27cm by 16 cm. (8cm, then cut in and then another 8cm), however, when I measure the snaps down the front, I would need it to be longer (9.75cm then 8 cm.) Do I just make the pattern longer? I mean Will it still fit the diaper when I have it all laid out? Please help, thank you! This is my first time making these and my baby is due soon, I am excited to start cloth diapering this time around with a baby!

  16. Cloth diapers today are much different from the ones used 20 years ago. Yet, some parents choose disposable diapers, which can simply be thrown away after usage and are generally more available.
